Even for being geographically compact, Boston has a ton to see and do when you give the city a closer look. For your next trip to Beantown, though, look no further than Boston’s Charles Street in Boston’s Beacon Hill as a great place to eat, shop and experience the city. There’s a little something for everyone on this historic street and it’s one of the best parts of town to spend an afternoon wandering and snacking as you go. With that in mind, here are the best restaurants and shops to check out during your next visit to Charles Street.
When it comes to spending the day with the kids, your first stop has to be Red Wagon, the perfect boutique for parents looking to keep their kids looking fashionable and timeless. They have an excellent selection of toys, games and clothes that will be perfect for your time in Boston. Just next door is the Holiday Boutique (pictured above, courtesy of @holidaybeaconhill), the necessary stop for the fashionista in the family as the store is well-stocked with clothing from designers from smaller fashion houses both in and outside the US. Further down Charles Street is Black Ink, a print and gift shop and self-proclaimed “design lab” that always seems to have something that you never knew you wanted until you see it.
Once you work up an appetite, there are myriad of great restaurants on Charles Street as well. You can’t go wrong with a visit to Figs on Beacon Hill, famous for their oblong-shaped pizzas (and perfect to bring the kids to). For something slightly more upscale, make a stop at Artu for classic takes on Italian favorites. Lastly, to round out an afternoon on Charles Street, stop by Beacon Hill Chocolates for a sweet ending to a fantastic day exploring one of Boston’s most beloved streets.
