The Boston Seaport District is buzzing, thanks to late mayor Thomas Menino’s distinction of the area as the Innovation District in 2010, the first one of its kind in the United States. The Seaport is now home to numerous tech and pharmaceutical companies including GE and Genzyme, as well as a thriving restaurant scene. Here’s how to spend a day in the quickly-changing Boston Seaport District.
What to See in the Boston Seaport District
Soul Cycle Seaport
Kick off your day with a sweat inducing ride at this Soul Cycle Seaport, a beloved spin studio where 45-minute classes are the norm.
Snag a seat at New York City transplant By Chloe where even the biggest meat lover would be fooled by its delicious vegan menu items like a veggie pesto “meatball” sub, air baked sweet potato fries, and a Greek salad with herbed tofu feta. If meat is really your game, head nearby to the 100th location of fast favorite burger joint Shake Shack.
The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston was one of the first residents in the revamped Seaport when it opened in 2006. Its glass facade makes it the most optimal place to take in water views, and a regularly changing roster of thought-provoking exhibitions make it one of the country’s leading contemporary art museums.
Lawn on D
Communal green space Lawn on D was a boon for the neighborhood when it first opened a few years ago, thanks to its extensive list of events, concerts, festivals, and a Fitness on D series. Lawn on D teems with events throughout the spring, summer, and fall, and is a great way to interact with locals enjoying a beer after work or taking part in a corn hole tournament.
Enjoy a flight of beer and a side of soft pretzels at the Seaport’s Harpoon Brewery. Sip on brews like the classic IPA, Boston Irish Stout, and the Citra Sea IPA.
Drink Fort Point
The bartenders at cocktail-focused Drink Fort Point pride themselves on concocting drinks based on your personal preferences, whether they be as vague as “bubbles” or as particular as a type of liqueur. Their light snacks menu is also a must, from the fries to the decadent grilled cheese sandwich, and pairs perfectly with a cocktail or two.
